New 2017 Hyundai Sonata

2017 Hyundai Sonata Overview

New/Notable:
  • Available sport-style front-end
  • Standard Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility
  • 245-hp, twin turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine available
The 2017 Hyundai Sonata is a premium midsize sedan that competes with the Mazda Mazda6, Ford Fusion, and Toyota Camry. This year, the Sonata remains largely unchanged. The more fuel efficient Sonata Hybrid version will be covered a separate overview.

Six trims are available; the SE, Eco, Sport, Sport 2.0T, Limited, and Limited 2.0T.

In terms of exterior style, the Korean-designed Sonata sedan has a more conventional European luxury aesthetic. On the Sport and higher trims, the Sonata is fitted with a sportier front-end, which includes a larger front grille and a black-clad fascia with LED daytime running lamps. Other available features include Xenon HID headlights, turn signal indicators at the side mirrors, sport-tuned suspension, a rear diffuser, a dual-pipe exhaust system, and 17- or 18-inch wheels. Power/heated side mirrors, a rear spoiler, and 16-inch wheels come standard.

Under the hood, the Sonata is powered by a standard 185-hp, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. For better fuel efficiency, a 178-hp, twin-turbocharged 1.6-liter 4 cylinder mated to a 7-speed automatic is available for the Sonata Eco. The Sport 2.0T and Limited 2.0T trims have a more powerful, 245-hp twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. Fuel economy for the Sonata 2.4-liter is an EPA-estimated 25/36 mpg city highway. The Sonata Eco has an improved rating of 28/36 mpg, while the fuel economy decreases to a 22/31 mpg rating for the Sport 2.0T and Limited 2.0T trims.

Inside, the Sonata has a premium cloth interior with a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The center stack features a standard audio system, which includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, CD/MP3 playback, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and a USB port. It can be upgraded with an 8-inch touchscreen, an integrated navigation system, and an Infinity premium audio system. Standard features include air conditioning, power windows/locks, remote keyless entry, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel. Available features include leather upholstery, power/heated front seats, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a memory seat, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Standard safety features include a backup camera and a tire pressure monitoring system. A blindspot monitoring system, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking are also optional.
