In terms of size, the Edge sits somewhere between the compact Escape and the longer Flex. It is distinguished by its bold, hexagonal grille, sleek body lines, and tall doors. All three available engines for the Edge are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The SE, SEL, and Titanium trims have a standard 245-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and an optional 280-hp, 3.5-liter V-6. Both engines have front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) options. The Edge Sport has a standard 315-hp, twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 mated to a 6-speed automatic and AWD.

Fuel economy for the 4-cylinder models have an EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 20/30 mpg city/highway (FWD) and 20/28 mpg (AWD). For the V-6 models, the fuel economy ratings are 18/26 mpg (FWD) and 17/25 mpg (AWD). Lastly, the Edge Sport with the twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 achieves a 17/24 mpg rating.

Inside, the Edge has a modern, two-tone interior with front bucket seats and a split-folding rear seat. It has 73.3 cubic feet of cargo room with the rear seat folded down. The center console houses the standard SYNC multimedia system, which features a color display, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and an app suite. It can be upgraded to the SYNC 3, which includes a touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Siri Eyes Free mode, an integrated navigation system, and smartphone vehicle controls. Optional features include leather upholstery, heated front and rear seating, ventilated front seats, and electronic instrumentation.

The Edge earned a full 5-star overall crash test safety rating from the NHTSA. Standard features include front air bags, antilock brakes, an electronic stability system, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a backup camera. Rain-sensing wipers, blindspot warning, front collision warning, cross traffic alert, park assist, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control are available as well.
